Anatoliy M. Goltsev is an outstanding scientist in cryobiology, immunology and medicine. In 1972, he graduated from Kharkiv Medical Institute and in 1978 defended his PhD thesis in specialty “Medical Radiology and X-ray Radiography”, and in 1989 – doctoral thesis in “Cryobiology”. Since 1993, he has been heading the Department of Cryopathophysiology and Immunology.
Anatoliy Goltsev has greatly contributed to the development of science, in particular in designing technologies for biological objects’ cryopreservation, ensuring their long-term storage and functional activity, as well as in exploring the immune system’s response to their administration. Under his leadership, the methods for freeze-drying the human cord blood leukocyte concentrate for therapy of autoimmune and viral pathologies have been developed, and they are of great potential for clinical medicine.
Anatoliy M. Goltsev has authored more than 1200 publications, including 13 monographs, 122 papers indexed in international databases, and 58 patents of Ukraine. His contributions have been highly recognized, in particular, in 2016, the patents for nanotechnology to diagnose and treat the malignant tumors were awarded the first place in the All-Ukrainian competition “Invention of the Year” in “Medicine” nomination.
Anatoliy M. Goltsev has trained 5 doctors and 22 candidates of science. His h-index is ranked as 10 (Scopus) and 7 (WoS). He teaches the PhD courses in specialties “Biology and Biochemistry” and “Medicine”, and for many years, he has been lecturing on immunology to physicians at the Kharkiv Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education.
Over the years, Anatoliy Goltsev has held the positions of Deputy Director for Research (2003-2011), Director of the IPС&C of the NAS of Ukraine (2011-2021), and since 2021 – Advisor to the Directorate of the Institute. He also heads the State Enterprise “Interdepartmental Scientific Center for Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences, National Academy of Medical Sciences and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine”. Since 2011, he has been the coordinator of the UNESCO Chair in Cryobiology.
Anatoliy M. Goltsev has been awarded numerous prizes, including the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology (1992), the V.P. Komisarenko Prize of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine (2019), honorary titles, awards from the Cabinet of Ministers and the National Academy of Sciences. He is also a member of the Editorial Boards of scientific journals and heads the journal “Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine”. Anatoliy M. Goltsev actively cooperates with international organizations, is a member of the Ukrainian Society of Pathophysiologists, the Society for Low Temperature Biology and the European Association for Cancer Research.
