In 1983, Olga S. Prokopiuk graduated with honors from Kharkiv Medical Institute, in 1990 she defended her PhD thesis, and in 2014 – doctoral thesis in specialty “Cryomedicine”, she is a professor in the specialty “Cryomedicine”. Since 1989, Olga S. Prokopiuk has been working at the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, since 2002 she is the Head of the Department of Low Temperature Bank of Biological Objects. Currently, she is a Principal Researcher and Deputy Director of the Institute.
Olga S. Prokopiuk is a leading expert in cryomedicine, low-temperature banking of biological objects, biosafety verification, experimental substantiation and clinical application of techniques for cell and tissue therapy. Her research priorities are to outline the scientific approaches for procurement of cryopreserved placental biological objects, to determine the peculiarities of their in vitro and in vivo functioning, as well as the pathogenetic substantiation of their use in regenerative medicine. Olga S. Prokopiuk has developed technologies for creating strategic stocks of tissues, cells, and bioengineered placental constructs.
Under her scientific supervision, there were performed the state-commissioned researches, contracts to preserve the Low-Temperature Bank of Biological Objects, which has the national endowment status, and international research projects. The findings of Olga S. Prokopiuk are reported in more than 250 scientific publications: papers, abstracts, patents, author’s certificates, 3 monographs (including 1 published abroad), a tutorial guide, and methodological recommendations. Her H-index is ranked as 8 (Google Scholar).
Olga S. Prokopiuk is a member of the Specialized Academic Council of the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, a member of the Academic Council and the section “Experimental Cryobiology and Cryomedicine”, a professor of the UNESCO Chair in Cryobiology, member of the Editorial Board of the Scopus Indexed Journal “Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine”, member of the expert group of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on the state accreditation of institutions for their research activities, as well as the member of scientific societies of obstetricians and gynecologists, experts in cryobiology and cryomedicine. Olga Prokopiuk participates in the open specialized meetings of the committees of the Verkhovna Rada, the Ministry of Education and Science, and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
For her scientific, inventive, organizational, and medical activities, she was awarded the State Prize of Ukraine in Science and Technology, the honorary title of Honored Doctor of Ukraine, the M.I. Pirogov Medal, certificates and gratitude from the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Regional and City Councils of People’s Deputies, organizing committees of scientific forums, administration of the Institute, and granted the title of “Woman of the Year” in nomination “Science and Education” and “Inventor of the Year of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine”.
