HISTORY OF THE LABORATORY
The Phytocryobiology Laboratory was established in 2014, and included employees of the Departments of Low-temperature Preservation, Cryoprotectants and Low-temperature Bank of Biological Objects. The head of the laboratory was Doctor of Biological Sciences, Prof. Leonid F. ROZANOV.
RESEARCH DIRECTIONS
The main direction of the laboratory’s studies is the creation of effective methods for low-temperature storage of microalgae cells, seeds of various agricultural crops and wild species listed in the Red Book of Ukraine, grape cuttings and fruit crops, meristems. The laboratory works on solving fundamental problems of cryopreservation of plant genetic diversity. For this purpose, cryomicroscopy and volumetry are used, which allow determining the behavior of microalgae and higher plant cells in various cryoprotectant solutions as well as under different cooling-warming regimens.
CURRENT RESEARCH
- Development of theoretically grounded approaches to cryopreservation of plant objects of various levels of organization
- Studies of various methods of preparing microalgae, meristems and buds for cryopreservation using vitrification procedures
