Four leading Ukrainian academic and clinical institutions — the Institute of Molecular Biology and Genetics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Institute for Problems of Cryobiology and Cryomedicine of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, the Bogomolets National Medical University, and the Romodanov Institute of Neurosurgery of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine — have signed a consortium agreement on scientific and technological cooperation.
Through this partnership, the institutions have combined their scientific, clinical, and technological capacities to create, develop, and jointly operate a distributed research infrastructure (DRI) for biobanking and biomedicine, known as BioMedBank.
Key Areas of Activity
BioMedBank will focus on:
- Fundamental and applied biomedical research, aimed at understanding pathogenetic, genetic, and epigenetic mechanisms underlying human diseases.
- Development and sustainable expansion of biological sample collections, ensuring open, transparent, inclusive, and ethical access to biomaterials for research.
- Support for reproducibility and high-quality standardsin preclinical and clinical studies.
- Creation and advancement of digital technologies and information systems in biobanking and biomedicine.
- Training of highly qualified specialists and conducting scientific, technical, and expert‑consulting activities in the field of biobanking and biomedical research.
The establishment of the BioMedBank DRI will enhance integration among Ukrainian research institutions and healthcare facilities, consolidate biological resources and research data, and foster international collaboration in biobanking and biomedicine.
